Bottled Up Designs Reclaimed Glass Jewelry

Reclaim Artist Laura Bergman
Out of concern for the environment and the wildlife, Laura Bergman has been reclaiming the antique glass and bottles from the natural wooded habitat, and from the rural farmland in the Pennsylvania Amish Country where she lives. She has seen baby deer laying among the broken pieces of glass, foxes running though it, and squirrels chasing each other through broken pieces of glass.

Vintage Ball Perfect Mason Jar Pendant
This stunning glass pendant is cut from the broken remains of a World War II-era Mason jar. Thick ice blue glass showing off the old waves from the bottom of the antique jar. Actually, the bottom is all I found of this one. The glass measures 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" and is given a wrap of sterling. I hand drilled a groove around the perimeter to seat the wrap snugly to the glass. It hangs from a 16" recycled rubber neck cord, adjustable to 18".
$48

Glass bottle dumps in remote rural areas are scoured by collectors looking for valuable whole bottles. Unfortunately, the broken glass has been left behind for the environment and the wildlife to deal with. To Laura, this glass still has beauty and history, so she decided to pick up the pieces and turn them into something beautiful again.

This is a remarkable way to preserve the history of this pretty glass, to clean up the environment, and to protect wildlife from broken glass. To Laura this glass still has history and beauty, and she now presents it to you in her unique jewelry collection, Bottled Up Designs. An avid glass and bottle collector, she has written The Story of the Glass, detailing the history behind each piece of glass, what it would have been used for long ago, and the age of the piece.

Artist Statement

An avid antique glass and bottle collector, I live near a wooded area with multiple antique bottle dumps. It has always bothered me how as collectors, we take away the pretty whole bottles, but leave the broken pieces behind. After having one of my dogs return from a walk with his feet cut, I decided to pick up the pieces of this lovely antique glass and use it to create jewelry. Each of my pieces is made from start to finish by me, 100% from reclaimed antique glass from these dumps.
