Kathleen Lamberti Jewelry

Handcrafted Mixed Media Jewelry from K Lamberti

Kathleen Lamberti has always been interested in found natural objects, which she uses as a point of departure for her mixed fiber and metal jewelry pieces. For Lamberti, the combination of fiber and metal creates a tension between soft and hard surfaces. By working in the two disciplines, Kathleen Lamberti is able to rediscover each discipline and the capabilities of each material.

Kathleen made her first piece of jewelry in high school. She went on to receive a Bachelors in Design from Kansas University and a Masters in Fine Art from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has always been drawn to metal as a material. It has endless possibilities. In Africa, the metalsmith has a special place in the tribe because they believe the shaping of metal through the use of fire is magical. It is this magical quality that attracted her to metalsmithing.

As Katheen's concept of jewelry has expanded so has her use of materials. She began to experiment with fabric such as silk, felt, and leather, which gives a softness to the metal and enables her to work with color. She enjoys working with the two very different materials – metal and fiber – and applying the techniques from each discipline to the other material.

Artist Statement
Bodily decoration can convey so many things, including strength, beauty, boldness, restraint, and edginess. Jewelry is art worn on the body, art that is taken out and experienced on a daily basis. Each piece of jewelry can be transformed by the wearer, or the wearer can be transformed by the piece. These are the concepts that motivate my work.
